The 11th annual Freakout Festival is returning to Ballard this year with three days of music in venues all over the neighborhood.
The local independent record label Freakout Records produces the festival each year. While Freakout has been operating the festival for over a decade, new this year is the record label’s transition to non-profit status.
The shift is part of the label’s plan to “strengthen the organization’s commitment to the local music community and create new opportunities for emerging artists,” according to a statement from Freakout.
The Freakout label received a City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund earlier this year for $49,850 to help produce the annual, locally grown festival.
“The move to become a non-profit felt like a natural step forward,” label co-founder Skyler Locatelli said in the statement. “We’ve always had a heavy focus on community engagement, and profit has never been the primary goal in our minds.”
This year’s Freakout Festival is planned for Nov. 2-5 with headliners including Allah-Las, The Gories, The Spits, and Son Rompe Pera.
This year’s venues are Salmon Bay Eagles, Sunset Tavern, Ballard Smoke Shop, Conor Byrne, Tractor Tavern, C.C. Filson, and Caffe Umbria.
