Laura Buzard and her team at Laura Bee Designs (6418 20th Avenue NW ) are using their talent of sewing to help raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. They are hand sewing these dahlias made with felt that is 100 percent recycled soda bottles. Each one is topped off with a vintage button from Laura’s personal collection.
The goal is to sell 200 flowers at $12 a piece. $10 of the sale will be donated to Mercy Corps, a Portland-based relief non-profit, while the $2 will pay for shipping costs to anywhere in the United States and cover any credit card fees. You can buy online here or head into the store at 6418 20th Avenue NW. Buzard hopes to cut Mercy Corps a $2,000 check on February 14, 2010. (Disclosure: Laura Bee is a sponsor of MyBallard.)
Very cool! I will definitely need one.
Remember when Ballard, Greenwood and Central Market's ownership group matched Katrina donations made at the register up to $500? They did it for about a week to the tune of tens of thousands. Very generous of them.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful support.
We have sold over 140 of these little flowers since Saturday both on our website and in the shop. Thus, we've raised $1400 for Mercy Corps' Haiti efforts so far.
We're close to our goal of 200, and ready to make even more if there is demand.
