There’s a new vendor at the Golden Gardens Bathhouse: The Kite Cafe is now open.
Co-owners Matt Kelly and Tony Meyer came up with the idea for The Kite Cafe when they saw the city’s request for a new tenant. Miri’s at Golden Gardens closed in December 2022, after a five-year run on the beach.
Seattle Parks selected The Kite Cafe following a request for proposal process that ended in October.
Kelly and Meyer are both from Ballard; they’ve been friends for a long time and have both worked in restaurants.
The Kite Cafe specializes in East Coast-style sandwiches: Think Italian pressed sandwiches stuffed with genoa, coppa, soppressata and cheese.
They also have vegetarian options on the menu such as “The Greenwood”, a sandwich with marinated grilled cauliflower, sumac hummus, and veggies. Alongside sandwiches are salads, bowls, and picnic snacks like a charcuterie box and chips.
The cafe also serves hot and cold drinks, with a full coffee bar.
Their hours are Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
