As we’ve written about (here, here & here), Ballard businesses are raising money for the relief efforts in Haiti. Here are a few more:
The Matador: Today, all net proceeds at The Matador (2221 NW Market St.) will be donated to help Haiti quake victims. They are open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Haircuts for Haiti Kaley MacKay and Laurie Workman at Hair Design (5411 6th Ave NW) are offering haircuts for a donation. On Wednesday and Thursday (Feb. 17th & 18th), the duo will offer haircuts for a $25 donation to the Red Cross. Haircuts start at 10 a.m. Cash or checks made out to the Red Cross will be accepted. If they can’t fit you in, you can donate $10 to the Red Cross and you’ll receive $10 off your next hair service at Hair Design.
Venue Artist’s Table: During the month of February, artists at Venue (5408 22nd Ave. NW) will be donating items that, when sold, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Partners in Health.
Update: The team at Laura Bee Designs has spent countless hours cutting and crafting these beautiful dahlias. A month ago we wrote about her efforts to sell 200 dahlias and raise $2,000 for Mercy Corps. They have gone way above that, selling 680 hand-sewn flowers raising $6,800 for the non-profit. 286 were sold in the Ballard store alone. The rest was through the website with addresses in Seattle and all over the country. “This volume has exceeded my wildest dreams! I thought our original goal of 200 would be a push,” Laura Buzard writes on her blog (back when she had only sold a mere 531 flowers.)

Just over a month ago, Haiti was devastated by an earthquake – over 2 million desperately in need of food assistance to rebuild their lives. The World Food Programme was there before the quake, and they’ll be there afterwards. If you want to help you should go to: http://wfp.org/crisis/haiti or text FRIENDS to 90999 to make a $5 donation.
