There’s a new barbecue restaurant coming to the neighborhood: Outsider BBQ will soon take over the space where Ballard Pizza Co. used to operate at 4010 Leary Way NW.
Outsider BBQ has a Turkish twist: owner Onur Gulbay is from Istanbul. Gulbay moved from Istanbul to Austin in 2017, where he fell in love with Texan-style barbecue. When he moved to Seattle, he left his job in tech to open Outsider BBQ in 2022 as a pop-up and food truck in Seattle. Now, he’s opening his first brick-and-mortar.
Outsider BBQ has the usual barbecue joint offerings—brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. But the sides have a Turkish flare, with Turkish potato salad and an orange wheat berry salad.
Gulbay said the opening is still a few months out, but you can catch his food truck at local breweries (check Outsider BBQ on Instagram for updated schedules).
The Leary Way Ballard Pizza Co. merged with the downtown Ballard location (5107 Ballard Ave NW) to open in a larger spot on Ballard Ave—they’re now at 5205 Ballard Ave NW.
