Adam sent us this photo of a sign that has been placed on the southern fence of the former Sunset Bowl location.
The bright colors of the sign are a stark contrast to the now vacant, gravel lot behind the fence. “One of my favorite and most missed hang-outs. Ahhh…. bowling in Ballard. Sigh,” Adam writes. No word on who the artist is.
More art will be going up on the fence. Artists Pam Gray and Anne Baumgartner will be installing panels of cardboard and other recycled materials around the property. “The theme is loosely organized around the alphabet – with each 12 foot wide panel referencing a letter,” they write on their blog. “While the lot is empty, we will be infusing the scene with energy and images – panel by panel.” The art installation was postponed last week because of the rain.
Sunset Bowl closed last year and was demolished earlier this year.
“No word on who the artist is.”
Apparently someone who doesn’t understand property rights and the fact that it was Sunset Bowl’s OWNERS who closed it down and sold it.
I guess they didn’t care for bowling or their customers all that much.
Absurd! If you want to bowl then buy land and build a bowling alley. Your life is your responsibility.
Let the crankiness begin!
I love Ballard when I see whimsical displays like this. I’d rather be bowling, too. Pay no attention to the haters.
Hmmm, I feel the same way when I pass the old Lelani Lanes on Greenwood. Same prior owner, same outcome.
That’s awsome! WTG whoever you are!
I love these kind of thngs….Not sure what the hate is about….
Who cares if it was the owner that sold sunset bowl, the painting is a form of expression and it’s beautiful.
the haters are just people new to ballard!
I’m working on a big “Me too!” sign to put up next to this.
After bowling, I’d get some pancakes at Denny’s……….
nice mg44! haha
hey bark more, why do you instantly assume that this sign is an attack on your beloved land-developer capitalist heroes? it could just as well be a statement against the prior owners who, as you say, sold out. whatever the economic reasons behind the transition, to me the sign just says “there used to be a fun bowling alley here, now it’s gone, replaced by a vacant lot, and it sucks…” i think it’s a great piece of personal expression.
good one, ballardsucka. capitalism does suck, doesnt it
” capitalism does suck, doesnt it”
Sure….but only for losers and bowlers apparently.
Who needs a bowling alley or a Denny’s when you can have empty lots!
way to take a joke literally, Bark more.
BTW, thats a really original name you got there. Never seen that before
Capitalism giveth, capitalism taketh away.
Me thinks there’s not much bowling in Cuba.
and not much apples in orange
