Harvest season is fast approaching and City Fruit is hoping that Crown Hill residents will share their bounty.

If you’ve got a fruit tree that produces more than you can eat, City Fruit will donate the fruit to local food banks, community and senior centers, and childcare centers in the Crown Hill/ Phinney/Greenwood/Ballard area. The organization is looking for donations as well as people to help harvest the fruit in the Crown Hill area. If you are interested, email Jen Mullen the harvest coordinator at crownhill@cityfruit.org.
Solid Ground is also looking for volunteers for their annual Community Fruit Tree Harvest. They will host a volunteer orientation on Tuesday, July 27, 6:30pm – 7:30pm at the Ballard Library (5614 22nd Ave NW).
This sounds like a great program. Usually our Italian prune trees produce hundreds of prunes – but this year they won’t, the weather seems to have dampened their spirits.
Make sure that the recipients are not members of the Ballard Chamber. After all, the bike trail is the only thing in the world that matters.
So cool. My elderly brother in law taught me how to “shop” in urban Denver during our evening walks. A former Lincoln Brigade Member in Massachussets explained to me how no one really owned the fruit that overhung the sidewalks and fell on the ground. ( he had the same idea of community ownership of bikes – which I could not accomodate. And we had lots of nice pies and fun times.
This sounds like a good project.
