Just when you thought summer was over (or maybe came to the conclusion it was never going to start), mother nature has decided to give us a few days of hot weather.
Sailboats just off Golden Gardens before sunset Wednesday.
This weekend, take advantage of the sun with a free 90-minute sailboat ride at the Seattle Boat Show going on at the Shilshole Bay Marina (7001 Seaview Ave. N.W.) The cost of admission is $10 for the show ($5 for kids 11-17), but after that the ride is free. No strings attached, no sales pitches, no qualifying requirements. “It is pure and simply and idea the Seattle Boat Show organizers came up with to expose people to the fun of sailing,” the press release states. A schedule of departures can be found here.
The Boat Show also features “Wakeboard Alley” – a section inside Shilshole with 40-foot rails and sliders and a kicker that launches riders into the air. Demonstrations are Friday 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
More than 150 new and pre-owned boats will be on display. There is a beer garden and music, as well. More information can be found here.
The beauty of boating is that it spans all demographics. Someone on a 14 foot sailboat can have as much fun as someone on a million dollar yacht. In fact, I would argue that the amount of fun you have on the water is inversely proportional to boat length.
I don't sail anymore, as I prefer my smallish welded aluminum boat due to time constraints, but boating truly is the great equalizer. $10 sounds like a bargain to me for an introduction.
I agree. The “fun per dollar” quotient is MUCH higher with smaller boats.
We did this today and it was great! Thanks for the heads up.
