U.S. News and World Report reports that the University of Washington is one of the best colleges for shoppers, thanks in part to Ballard.
According to the news magazine, “The Pacific Northwest may be an afterthought for shopping, but the University of Washington proves to be an underrated haven for retail. Students can make the short trek to Ballard, a historic tree-lined district in northwest Seattle that offers up dozens of locally owned shops ranging from clothes to jewelry.” (Thanks Linda for the tip!)
What are these people smoking? I understand the Ave in the U District is a bum-infested dump, but that’s what college students like…a little rebellion before they become adults. I don’t see any on Ballard Ave and quite frankly, don’t want to; they’d start feeding the local pigeons.
And US News and World Reports wonders why its circulation shrank to the point that they had to give up on print.
I think perhaps USNWR has misunderstood the phrase “shopping colleges”.
A dear friend of mine who attended UW a while ago still talks about how much they miss shopping at Second Ascent. I think it remains their favorite outdoor gear store, and I can see why!
Another example of the deplorable state of journalism. Really sad that a once honorable profession has been reduced to this crap. Partly by their own hand, partly by greed, and mainly by a public that considers TMZ and ‘entertainment tonight’ news. Go read the blogs folks. That way you can get the ‘news’ that you want and agrees with your prejudices. Short paragraphs are so much better than long wordy articles that challenge your beliefs. Better yet, Faux News and right wing talk radio propaganda, emotion rousing sound bites without factual substance.
