The stretch of 65th between 8th and 3rd Avenues has been going through a restaurant renaissance recently, with the addition of Tigertail and Il Giardino in the past few months. In the next couple weeks, “The Dray” will open next door to Tigertail. The owner, who was putting in a little sweat equity Wednesday afternoon out front, said they’re aiming for the feel of a European cafe, with a coffee and sandwiches focus during the day, transitioning in the evening to beer and wine. They’ll even have bottle sales, which should improve the selection in that area from what you can get at two nearby convenience stores on 65th.
The Dray, by the way, is named for the old pull carts you see the peasants pulling in those 14th century period pieces.
