Salmon Bay student wins big for documentary

Thirteen-year-old Leo Pfeifer is one of 75 students around the country to be recognized by C-SPAN for his documentary called “Homelessness: An American Crisis.” Pfeifer was one of nearly 1,100 entries in the seventh annual StudentCam competition and is one of four second-prize winners in the country.

“The winning videos were those that best explained what the students learned about how the federal government works, and how the government’s decisions have an impact on the students on a local level,” says Joanne Wheeler, C‐SPAN vice president of education relations.

Next Friday, April 8th, C-SPAN will be at the school for a 30-minute all-school assembly to honor Pfeifer, who directed the documentary and the cameraman Ian Derby. They’ll also present Pfeifer with a $1,500 check. The documentary and an interview with Pfeifer will air on C-SPAN on Saturday, April 23rd. You can see all the winners here.
