Friday was KEXP’s Hood to Hood festival in Ballard. During last year’s KEXP pledge drive, Ballard won the Hood to Hood challenge for pledging more than any other ‘hood. The station did a live remote from the Sunset Tavern and live performances were ongoing at Sunset, Cupcake Royale, and other bars all day.

Tegan Kaske from Greenwood was at Eric Elbogen’s performance at Cupcake Royale. “It’s gorgeous out, and after seven months of gray, the convergence of nice weather and awesome people out experiencing free music from one of my favorite non-profits in the world is too much to pass up,” Kaske said.

KEXP’s midday DJ Cheryl Waters says the Hood to Hood is one of the best ways the station gets to interact with Ballard. “It’s a way to come out into the community, and show what a part of the community we are, and interact with listeners,” Waters said outside of the Sunset Tavern. “There’s someone that everyone loves doing something somewhere tonight.”
