This weekend is the 37th annual Ballard SeafoodFest and thousands of people are expected to descend on downtown Ballard for the big event.
Here’s what you need to know:
As always, Stan Boreson, the King of Scandihoovian humor, kicks off the musical entertainment on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. on the main stage, at the intersection of 22nd Ave NW and Ballard Ave. If you miss him on Saturday, he also plays on Sunday at the same time. The main stage lineup can be found here. Family stage entertainment can be found here.
The “Kids Zone” is back this year on 22nd Ave NW just in front of the library. New this year is “The Big Purple Slide.” From the SeafoodFest website, “You’ll climb up to great heights, then zip back to ground level in a fast and thrilling trip.”
La Señoritas drill team is sponsoring the beer garden near the main stage, serving up Ballard’s own Maritime Pacific. The Salmon Bay Eagles Wine Garden is a quieter venue up Ballard Ave.
Warren Aakervik will once again oversee the infamous alder-smoked salmon barbecue. For $10 you get a generous portion of salmon, coleslaw, garlic bread and a beverage.
It isn’t a true Ballard event without a little lutefisk. The always-popular lutefisk eating contest will be at Bergen Place Park on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
