The Nyer Urness House at 1753 NW 56th St will break ground later this month. The board of the Compass Housing Alliance has approved the official groundbreaking ceremony for February 21 at 11 a.m. “This event is a ceremonial groundbreaking, a time for people to come together and celebrate the beginning of the project,” Beth Boram, the Housing Development Director at Compass Housing Alliance tells us. “We will have a short program and refreshments.”
The Nyer Urness House will be a seven-story facility to house chronically homeless. It will be staffed 24 hours a day with NeighborCare operating a clinic 20 hours each week on the first floor of the facility.
Construction on the project will take 13 months, Boram told the Ballard District Council in December. Residents will move in March 2013. She says that some of the homeless will be from Ballard, although Ballardites may not see the difference because of the high number of homeless in our neighborhood.
