The Ballard Historical Society is hosting a free lecture this week featuring Dr. Lorraine McConaghy of the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI). The lecture is, “a journey through the fascinating original documents she researched for her new book, New Land, North of the Columbia.” It is on Wednesday, April 4, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ballard Landmark, 5433 Leary Avenue NW.
In her book, Dr. McConaghy tells the story of Washington back to 1853. According to the Ballard Historical Society, the author traveled for more than a year throughout Washington State, visiting public and university libraries, historical society archives, and federal, state, county and municipal archives to gather information for her book.
The lecture is made possible by the Ballard Historical Society and the Speakers Bureau program at Humanities Washington. There will be books available for purchase and an author signing after the lecture ends at 8 p.m.
