The Seattle Sailing Club, located in Ballard’s Shilshole Marina, is teaming up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to raise money for cancer research through sailing classes this summer. The program is called Sailing for Cancer Cures, and offers community members basic keelboat sailing courses with the Seattle Sailing Club at a discounted rate. The program also asks participants to do some fundraising for the LLS, and in return, receive benefits such as participation in the Leukemia Cup Regatta with their sailing instructor.
The classes are on June 2nd and 3rd, and cost $225 for 16 hours of instruction. The regatta is on June 9, at the Elliott Bay Marina. The LLS says the goal is to raise $160,000, “to continue funding life-saving research and crucial financial assistance for blood cancer patients in Washington and Alaska.”
