Ballard’s own Adams Elementary has been selected as one of two winners of the second annual state Schools of Excellence in Arts Education Award. The award is given by ArtsEd Washington in partnership with the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP), recognizing K-12 schools that provide “exemplary arts education programs to their students.”
From ArtsEd:
Located in the heart of the Ballard community, this diverse public elementary school directly integrates the arts into its curriculum and links it to district and state standards. Generous parent/PTA support and participation as well as grants have helped sustain and expand arts integration, and the staff is currently working to develop a systemic, articulated K-5 arts curriculum plan. The school was recently honored with the Mayor’s Arts Award, and in 2005 it was recognized by the King County Arts Commission for excellence in incorporating art into student learning.
Adams Elementary will be formally recognized in an award ceremony later this month.
