The Ballard Commons park has won the 2012 Special Mention Award for Design from the Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The park, designed by the Swift Company, was recognized because the jury was “impressed by this successful public open space, which serves as a vibrant community resource for a wide range of users and age groups,” according to the Swift Company.
“The park is the product of an extensive public process to engage the community and build consensus with diverse user groups, and the resulting design effectively addresses these differing needs. Playful integration of art elements within the plazas and fountains, and the general attention to detail and craftsmanship, make this a successful public space,” according to the jurors.
The Ballard Commons park was built from the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation Pro Parks Levy funds for park planning, design and construction. The Swift Company plans and designs public landscapes and open spaces in the Pacific Northwest.
