Update, 11:40 a.m.: Kyle Moore from Seattle Fire says the cause of fire is still undetermined, but that the damages are $125,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents.
Original post: A man has died after an apartment fire this evening in Crown Hill. According to Kyle Moore from the Seattle Fire Department, 911 calls came at 7:35 p.m., and crews responded within 10-15 5 minutes. The fire, which was contained in a single room on the second floor of the apartment building, was put out in five minutes. Crews from Engine 35 on Crown Hill said there were 8-foot flames leaping from the second-floor apartment when they arrived.
Seattle Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Walsh described the crews’ work as a “textbook job,” adding that there was no water damage in the apartment below.
Moore says that the man was found deceased on a hide-a-bed in the apartment upon the fire crews’ arrival. All 33 units of the apartment were evacuated for over an hour. Moore said there were no other injuries in the fire, and damages were limited to the apartment in which the fire originated.
The causes of both the fire and man’s death are still under investigation. We’ll update with any new details.
