The brewery takeover of Ballard is in full swing, as Populuxe Brewing is set to open by the end of the month at 826 NW 49th St.
Populuxe, fueled by homebrewers Peter Charbonnier and Jiri Zatloukal, is named after the owners’ love of Seattle and, “its assortment of ‘googie’ architecture,” Charbonnier tells us. “Populuxe is another name for that mid-century modern look typified by the Space Needle. Being a portmanteau of popular and deluxe, its also how we hope our beers will be perceived.”
Populuxe’s IPA
According to the brewery’s blog, they’ll have an IPA, Cascadian Dark Ale (CDA), pale ale, blonde ale, and a porter. The brewers are poised to win Washington Homebrewer of the Year for 2012, says Amy Besunder, Charbonnier’s wife.
The brewery will have a side yard, complete with a corn hole court and outdoor seating area. Corn hole, also known as bean bag toss, is a simple game involving a bean bag and a wooden board with a hole. The objective is even simpler: throw the bean bag in the hole for points.
Besunder tells us they’ve started a founders’ club: for $100, you get a Populuxe t-shirt, your own engraved 20 oz. glass which will be kept at the brewery, and invitations to special events. To help this brewery get going and to be in the club, click here for more info.
Stay tuned for an update on their opening date.
