Anchors Down nautical themed bar is set to open at 2016 NW Market St later this month. The bar will open right next door to popular Ballard gourmet hot dog spot Po Dog.
The new watering hole is the joint venture of Amy Graeff, manager of Capitol Hill spot Grim’s and Christopher Williams, general manager and co-owner of Capitol Hill sports bar Auto Battery. Po Dog owner Laura Olsen will also be a silent partner in the business venture.
According to Seattle Eater, “Graeff describes the place as a working class, blue collar bar with booze to match.” In terms of the booze, the bar is going to focus on supporting local distilleries and breweries.
When it comes to food service, similar to the set up at Williams’ Auto Battery, gourmet hot dogs will be served via a pass-through window from neighboring Po Dog.
The owners have revamped the space from a Scandinavian gift shop into an attractive refurbished 1900s bar that has a maximum seating capacity of 50. They have been working on the build out since January and have included nautical details and artifacts from the Washington and Oregon coast in the bar’s design.
The owners came up with the nautical concept to honor the fisherman heritage of Ballard. “We’re doing a whole vintage feel with Edison light bulbs; we’re using salvaged wood for the back of the bar and other recycled stuff. It’ll be a mix of new and old,” said Graeff.
Once open, Anchors Down will be open everyday from 4 p.m. to close.
