It’s a busy weekend in Ballard and it looks like the record-breaking heat is gone.
Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. the Hi-Life (5425 Russell Ave) is hosting a benefit pancake feed for Seattle’s Bravest, a local organization that provides care for fallen firefighters and their families.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Whittier Elementary will be hosting a community rummage sale at the school (1320 NW 75th).
From noon to 3:30 p.m., volunteers with Seattle Works will descend on Golden Gardens to help spruce up the park.
Saturday is Swedish National Day and the Swedish Cultural Center is throwing a “Saab Story,” a Swedish car show in the parking lot of the center from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dinner and a program at 6 p.m. Reservations required. 206-283-1090.
The Second Ascent Twilight Criterium is Saturday in Old Ballard. The first races start at 3:30 p.m. with the start/finish line at Ballard Ave & 20th Ave.
From 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday morning enjoy the last pancake breakfast at the Swedish Cultural Center of the season. No more pancakes until September!
Sunday at noon at All the Best Pet Care (1909 NW Market St.) is the fundraiser for “Ballard” a neighborhood feral cat who had a leg amputated on Memorial Day weekend. Donations are needed to help pay for its vet bill (Disclosure: All the Best Pet Care is a sponsor of MyBallard.)
The Boeing Employees Concert Band kicks off the 20th annual free concert series at the Locks. The band will play from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
A mystery time capsule will be opened at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Leif Erikson Hall (2245 NW 57th St.)
Thanks Swedes! Too many good choices, and not much time, but, I have to support the High Life event. Hopefully I can squeeze some more in. Thanks SFD, indeed, Seattle's Bravest.
Can you explain this to me, boardbrown? Sounds like they block off 1km of Ballard Ave and the racers loop it over and over for a certain amount of time? That seems crazy to me, with the current state of Ballard Ave (particularly the temporary-seeming asphalt bump toward the north end), so I think I must be misunderstanding what goes on.
In this case, crazy is a good thing. It's the closest thing we have here locally to the cycle racing experience of Europe. Semi-pros racing through city steets w/ potholes and cobblestones. Keep a short leash on the kids though!
Just wanna say Thank You! to All the Best Pet Care. I'll be there Sunday to donate and find ways to spoil my own kitties. And my sisters dogs, my brother's ferrets, my friend's cat, my other friend's cat…….
The criterium is one of my favorite Ballard events. Can't wait!
