The Fremont Brewing Company just opened last week, and they’re already delivering to a dozen bars in town, including one in Ballard.
Fremont Brewing is the brainchild of a former attorney who is working hard to created a sustainable brewery. Right now The Dray is the only bar serving up the brewery’s new beer in Ballard, but they’ve been in talks with other nearby bars. For more, FremontUniverse.com took a tour of the new brewery.

In order to be a partner in their effort of sustainability I will gladly return the unused portion of their beer, once it has passed through my kidneys.
Yet another reason to haunt The Dray. :-)
Though look forward to the day they introduce something lighter, like a pilsner. Fremont blog says they just have an Ale and an IPA at the moment.
if only there were a bike trail to Fremont….no I will not let it go!
Awesome! I really don't think it's possible to have too many breweries. Coffee shops? Yes. Sushi joints? Yes. Pretentious clothing stores? Yes. Breweries? Hell no!!!
Nice. I especially like their idea of making use of spent grain. I homebrew, and I always end up dumping lots of spent grain, even though I make dog biscuits out of a lot of it.
Looks like their tasting room is right off the Burke-Gilman. Between them and Gilligan's, I'm feeling a bike pub crawl coming on.
Sounds dangerous and amusing. Can I take pictures? ;-)
East to west: Redhook (optional), Big Time, Fremont Brewing, Gilligan's, Maritime. And that's just the breweries. Truly, we live in a magical city.
My wife makes spent-grain bread and pretzels from the leftovers of my homebrewing.
I'll have to try the dog biscuits too!
Your dog will probably like them better than you will…
Light Beer for light weight! I can drink after an afternoon of drinking, never stop to lift the leg, and keep on packing it away!
Bow Wow, Burp Gurgle, Bow Wow!
LOL :-)
Wasn't it Benjamin Franklin who said, “Beer is God's way of telling us that he has a sense of humor and likes to see us make fools of ourselves.”
4 cups spent grains (wet), 4 cups flour, 1 cup peanut butter, and an egg or two. Mix up, spread on a cookie sheet, score with a knife, bake for 20 minutes at 425 or so, then dry them out in the oven all night at about 250. Good for humans and dogs.
Awesome! Thanks!
Here's a variation, with a lot less flour. I think I'll try less flour next time:

Oooh, you ought to make bread with it!
Sweet news.
And from beer to Martha Stewart…nice posts!
Where is Gilligans? I've heard their name before.
And, yes, it is a magical (hick-up!) city.
It's right behind Hale's (which I completely forgot about — one more for the pub crawl):

They're only open during the hours listed on their “Events” calendar. They get completely slammed with bicyclist traffic in the evenings these days.
Unfortunately their lease is up in September.
Damn. Just when I find out about a place the lease is up. Well, I'll find it and do enough drinking to help save it. :-)
Thanks, Gurple!
Don't know about that one but Franklin supposedly did say that “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy”
Brewers have been reusing spent grain for years. When I worked at Pyramid 10+ years ago all of our spent grain wound up as hog feed.
Oh yeah, that's it. I always get that wrong!
Don't forget Hale's! Right on the trail!
Yeah — I can't imagine how Hale's slipped my mind.
Beer, getting ugly folks laid for centuries…
I resemble that remark…
So do I, Silver. Then I just order another beer and it doesn't bother me anymore. ;-)
Unfortunately, their spent grain has often been stored for days and weeks in open bins on the sidewalk of Albion Pl. Along with blocking the sidewalk, the spilled grain makes great rat food. The liquid runoff is allowed to enter the storm drain that empties into Lake Union. Not very good neighbors
Can you share your spent-grain dog biscuit recipe?
Thanks.
Passing on a hearty “thank you” from both of our dogs.
I shared it up above, but you'd probably have just as much luck with this:

Yikes, that's pretty bad. You'd think they'd want to avoid wrecking such a great PR move with such a lousy effect on the neighborhood. Have you complained to them?
