Seattle Parks and Recreation is inviting locals to submit potential names for the new park to be built on 14th Ave NW that has been in the works since 2009. The project design is close to finished, with the 90% Street Improvement Plan now under review by SDOT.
The creation of the park is set to convert two full blocks on 14th Ave NW (between NW 59th and NW 61st streets) and will replace the gravel parking median and portions of the existing concrete roadway.
According to Seattle Parks, the project includes green infrastructure and incorporates safety improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.
In terms of project funding, The Parks and Green Spaces Levy provided approximately $2.9 million for design and construction of the 14th Ave Park Boulevard.
The Parks Naming Committee will consider all suggestions and make a recommendation to Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jesús Aguirre, who will make the final decision about the new park’s makes the final decision.
All suggestions must be submitted in writing by Thursday, March 31, 2016, and include an explanation of how your suggestion matches the naming criteria.
