The popular Portland-based ice creamery, Salt & Straw, is planning to open a shop in Ballard.
“Hey Seattle—we’re coming to Ballard!” they write on their Facebook page. “We are tickled to announce our second upcoming scoop shop in Seattle, opening winter 2017 at 5420 Ballard Avenue NW. Our Ballard shop will sit pretty near Caffe Umbria, The Matador, La Isla, and the rest of the historic neighborhood’s gems.”
But Ballardites won’t have to wait that long to get a taste; they’ll be staging pop-up shops through summer and fall.
Owners Kim and Tyler Malek also have stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and are known for their unique and location-based flavors; Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese and Avocado & Strawberry Sherbet are on their LA menu, with flavors like Olive Oil & Lemon Custard and a vegan Teranga Baobab Juice & Coconut ice cream on their San Fransisco menu.
A Capitol Hill location is planned as well, also set to open this winter in the Pike Motorworks building.
