An electric trike that was stolen in May has been found.
On May 30, a unique custom-built electric cargo tricycle was stolen when it was parked at Fremont Brewing Company; the owner Michael Smith had offered a $100 reward for its return. Smith tells us it was found this week, abandoned on a sidewalk about a mile from the brewery.
“They took the battery but left the bike,” Smith told My Ballard. “Must have run out of power and gave up but swiped the battery,” which he said will cost about $500 to replace.
The trike is powered by the “HORSE” (High-solids Organic-waste Recycling System with Electrical output), which is a machine that turns food waste into renewable energy and organic biofertilizer, according to Smith. Its fuel economy is one mile per pound (mpp) of food waste.
