Incident in Ballard injures police officer

An incident in Crown Hill Loyal Heights this afternoon caused a Seattle Police officer to be injured. 

We received a number of emails from readers who say they saw multiple police cars near the corner of NW 80th St and 27th Ave NW around midday on Monday.

Seattle Police say officers were responding to a “crisis call”, and during the response, a police officer sustained an injury. Police say it wasn’t caused by the suspect – rather, it sounds like it was an accident.

The SPD couldn’t release any more details than that, but we’ll update with new information.

        1. “Hello 9-1-1? A Ballard Community member is breaking into my house and threatening my family. He is in need of crisis support. Send a team of virtue signalers immediately!”

  2. We should all be interested to learn more about the”crisis” that caused the officer to be there. But for the crisis would the injury have occurred?

  5. This was related to the “Help the firefighter” call at the same location; a patient threatened firefighters and a relative with a small knife. Sounded like the patient was taken into custody without incident. Sending good thoughts to the family – mental health care in our country is sorely lacking.

    1. Lucas, are you suggesting we send folks with mental illnesses to a different country? It seems more appropriate to treat them here than send them away.

The Engine company on scene for a medical/mental health call (a male not taking his prescribed medications, not eating) withdrew and called for police assistance when said male threatened them, and his mother, with a knife. Injured Officer was attempting to get around to the back of the house to ensure containment of the suspect, but he injured himself in the process.       1. Jack.. Tazed is not anywhere close to electroshock . Check your facts. To all of the rest of the posters (elenchoss excluded because I agree) if you think and feel that our police department is not performing to your liking then MAN/WOMAN UP and become a part of the solution .

        2. The police work for us. We choose their boss, and we pay them. If they are not performing to our liking, it’s our job to say so. Any officer who thinks citizens should shut up and do it themselves if they don’t like they job the police are doing is insubordinate.

          The reality is this: if a cop doesn’t like working for the people of Seattle, then quit. Cops who don’t want us looking over their shoulder should find somebody else to work for. They’re paid professionals, not volunteers. They’re not benefactors from on high who swooped in to save us. They are our employees. We defined what their job is, and they freely accepted the job as described. If they’re no longer happy with the arrangement, it’s up to them to take their services elsewhere.

          2. But you’d only need to change “police” to “teachers” if there were anybody habitually pouncing on citizens who dared to criticize teachers. Typical false equivalence, meant to divert attention from the actual point.
