There will be some major improvements coming to the intersection just south of the Ballard Bridge, which means a lengthy closure of the interchange of W. Nickerson St and 15th Ave W.
The Nickerson Paving Project will begin 17 consecutive days of work starting 9am Friday Oct. 5 to 5am Monday Oct. 22 to strengthen the road base and repave the arterial and truck route, according to SDOT. The roads will be closed all hours of the day, seven days a week, with construction happening weekdays from 7am to 10pm, and 7am to 9pm on weekends.
The closures include the following (for detailed maps of each closure and alternative detours, click here):
- NB 15th Ave W to EB W Nickerson St
- WB W Nickerson St to W Emerson Pl Overpass
- EB W Emerson Pl to NB 15th Ave W
- WB W Nickerson St to NB 15th Ave W
- EB W Emerson Pl to EB W Nickerson St (weekends only)
Bus routes 29 and 31 will be rerouted from W. Nickerson St. to 14th Ave W and W. Dravus St, intermittently — check King County Metro for specific details. SDOT says that street parking on 14th Ave W will be temporarily suspended to make way for buses.
