Greenwood man passes away after falling into 7-foot well

A 51-year-old man has passed away from injuries sustained when he fell into a 7-foot well shaft on Sunday evening.

The incident was reported by members in the My Ballard Group, which was initially called out on the Seattle Fire scanner as a rope rescue to a house on 3rd Ave NW near NW 95th St.

According to information relayed on the scanner, the man fell head-first into the well. First responders attempted CPR but the man passed away at the scene.

  1. What?! There’s open wells in Ballard I can just walk into and die?

    Can you provide any more information please? Is there a map of such wells?

    1. Right? Like. uhhhh, head first? this is crazy! Komo has the address at “The fall happened around 9 p.m. in the 9500 block of 3rd Ave. NW, according to Seattle Fire officials.”

    2. There are old wells throughout the city/county from the days before everyone was on public water. They should be capped off but not always. I found an old well on a piece of property in the Wedgwood area about thirty years ago that had not been capped.
