If you’re a history buff and you want to help out some local students, here’s your chance: volunteer judges are needed for the next middle and high school North Puget Sound History Day Contest.
For the competition, students conduct extensive research on a topic of their choosing, based on a national theme. The projects must fall under one of five categories: research papers, performances, documentaries, websites, and exhibits. Ballard High School is one of the competing schools in the competition, which attracts hundreds of students from around the region.
The competition organizers say they need about 100 judges.
“We are looking for thoughtful, insightful members of the community who are willing to provide students feedback on their History Day projects,” they write on the application website.
The competition is scheduled for March 9 at Northshore Middle School in Bothell. If you aren’t free that day, they could still use your help — they need people who can judge research papers or websites from home during the month of February.
The winners of the regional competition then advance to the state contest in April, and top finishers from state will head to the national competition in June in Maryland.
