My Ballard reader Lakreitz just posted this in the My Ballard forum:
“Last night, I saw a coyote cross 34th between 68th & 70th. He zipped across the street in the shadows, but based on the size and gait of the critter it was pretty obviously a coyote. The end of 70th, just a block down from 34th dead-ends into the greenbelt.”
Coyotes aren’t that uncommon in the Golden Gardens and Carkeek Park areas, as you can see from this Google map that tracks coyote sightings. And yes, coyotes have been known to kill cats. “Around my house (65th & 34th-ish), there are flyers for four missing cats,” Lakreitz writes.
