“Without Borders” EXHIBIT OPENING! Thursday, April 18th, 2019 6 PM – 9 PM
BallardWorks is delighted to host artists represented through Seattle grassroots organization The Art of Saving Humanity, where a variety of artists are encouraged to share their cultural art skills in an effort to preserve and protect vanishing art forms at risk from an ongoing global refugee crisis. (Learn more at www.artofsavinghumanity.org).
Please join us Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 6pm – 9pm at BallardWorks, 2856 NW Market Street, Ballard Seattle 98107, as we celebrate the works of Abraham Awalom and Olha Moisiuk, along with three floors of various artists’ studios open for viewing, collaboration and wonderful conversation.
Abraham Awalom
In his home country of Eritrea, Abraham was a professional figurative and semi-abstract painter. Many of his paintings have exhibited abroad in Sudan, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait. Abraham fled Eritrea in 2014 and came to the U.S. as an asylee. In 2016 he was reunited with his wife and two youngest children. This year, the couple was finally able to free their two older children (now 10 and 12) and bring them to join the family after four years of separation.
Olha Moisiuk
A painter, illustrator, author and scholar of art history, Olha earned her PhD from M.T. Rylsky Institute of Art, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Science in Ukraine in 2015. She came to the U.S. as a refugee in 2016, making her new home in Auburn, Washington with her husband, daughter, and mother-in-law. Olha has exhibited extensively and currently teaches children’s painting classes in her community.
Three floors of art studios and exhibition spaces open for the Art Walk during Ballard Night Out on Thursday, April 18th, 2019. Open 6:00-9:00 pm only. Open houses at several of the 20 BallardWorks studios offer a chance to talk to the artists and see their oeuvre. Families with kids, art lovers, collectors, and neighbors are welcome. Enter through the 1st or 2nd floor doors on 30th Avenue NW. Studio artists’ work includes painting, woodworking, sculpture, print making, and more, all under one roof.
