Embroidered Seattle Map Class ft. Robert Mahar
October 22, 2022 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm
$95.00Seattleites! Celebrate your city, neighborhood, or local landmarks, commemorate a road trip across town, or stitch connections between you and your loved ones. Join artist and maker Robert Mahar in a guided exploration of all the ways you can embroider your Emerald City adventures while you embellish a beautiful 1920s map custom printed on a half yard (27″ x 36″) of linen cotton canvas.
Perfectly suited for beginners, instruction will cover embroidery basics and essential stitches using variegated perle cotton threads. However, students with more embroidery experience are also encouraged to join for a fun refresher course and the opportunity to apply their skills to a large-format map.
Please note that this map is 100+ years old and some cartographic changes have taken place in the intervening years… however, most boundaries and geographic features remain largely accurate. Cleverly designed with printed border guides, you’ll find it easy to sew finished edges at home or wrap your map around a cork board to pin photos of your friends, family, and travels.
All materials (custom sampler, practice fabric, a limited palette of variegated perle cotton thread, wood hoop, and needle!) along with instructional diagrams are provided and included in the cost of the class. However, if you have favorite embroidery tools or prefer specific colors of embroidery floss (6-strand or perle), you are encouraged to bring these items to the workshop!
This class will take place at Monster on Saturday, October 22nd starting at 11:30 AM. The address is 1716 NW Market St. Seattle, WA 98107.
6 people minimum, 12 maximum. Ages 18+
All attendees will receive 20% off same-day purchases at Monster. Discounts can’t be applied to original art, gift cards, or class tickets.
