PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop
June 4, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
FreeThe 10th annual PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop event returns on Saturday, June 4 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm to celebrate LGTBQIA families and friends. The celebration carries the vital message that Phinney-Greenwood is safe, inclusive, and committed to equity for all.
Participating businesses along the “Rainbow Hop Route” will host fun activities that promote inclusiveness. The event map will be available online at phinneycenter.org/pride22 and copies will be available at participating locations. The map will list event activities and participating businesses and organizations.
The celebration kicks off at 10:30 am and includes activities at businesses from 87th St. to 67th St. and Greenwood Ave N. Additionally, more than a dozen organizations and businesses will host activities at booths in Piper Village, Alice Ball Park, and the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church front lawn.
Everyone is invited to explore the neighborhood, have fun, and get PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop maps stamped at participating businesses. Kids who collect six stamps or more can exchange the map for a Woodland Park Zoo ticket from 1 to 3 pm in the Ken’s Market parking lot, where they can also tie-dye a shirt in festive rainbow colors.
“The PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop celebration is a fabulous opportunity for everyone to build community and share their love of diversity and inclusion,” said event coordinator Chris Maykut, Small Business Advocate for the Phinney Neighborhood Association.
This will be the first in-person PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop since 2019. The event continued during the pandemic as a self-directed walking tour of pro-LGTBQIA art, signage, and sidewalk chalking throughout the community. The PNA is overjoyed to return to an in-person family-friendly celebration to kick off Pride Month.
Tricia Piper-Bennett from Illumination Learning Studios expressed their delight in being a part of the Hop again this year: “At ILS, we pride ourselves in teaching and promoting acceptance to all of our students. We love participating in the annual Rainbow Hop as it’s an accessible, family friendly event that spreads so much joy throughout our vibrant community.”
