City to close parking lots at eight Seattle parks, including Golden Gardens

In yet another move to prevent gatherings, the City of Seattle will close a number of parking lots at popular parks around the city, including Golden Gardens, starting tomorrow (Wed., March 25).

Golden Gardens is one of eight “destination parks,” along with Green Lake, Lincoln, Seward Park, Magnuson Park, Gas Works, Alki Beach, and Discovery Park. All beaches are closed to gatherings, but are still open for walking.

“Understanding the Governor’s Stay at Home, Stay Healthy order, residents are encouraged to visit the 479 local neighborhood parks or to bike or walk to these destination parks, which will remain open for public use,” the statement from the City reads.

After over 4,000 people visited Rattlesnake Ledge Trail last weekend, the City is also prohibiting access to Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area and Rattlesnake Ledge Trail near North Bend. Gates to the parking lot will be closed by watershed protection staff beginning this evening, and signs will be installed to indicate to residents that the recreation area and trail are now closed. Seattle Parks staff and police will be out encouraging social distancing, and making sure park users respect off-limits equipment and areas, such as picnic shelters, tables, and outdoor exercise equipment.
